Scares and Superstitions

There's a lot of things to be afraid of around halloween. Here are a few of them:

  • Samhainophobia - Fear of Halloween
  • Coimetrophobia - Fear of cemeteries
  • Triskadekaphobia - Fear of the number 13
  • Herpetophobia - Fear of creepy, crawly things
  • Necrophobia - Fear of death and dead things
  • Wiccaphobia - Fear of witches and witchcraft
  • Automatonophobia - Fear of ventriloquist dummies
  • Selenophobia - Fear of the moon
  • Lygophobia - Fear of being in a dark, gloomy place
  • Satanophobia - Fear of bunnies Satan
  • Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia - Fear of the number 666
  • Necrophobia - Fear of corpses
  • Noctiphobia - Fear of night
  • Arachibutyrophobia - Fear of peanutbutter sticking to the roof of your mouth
  • Spectrophobia - Spectors or ghosts
  • Ephebiphobia - Fear of teenagers
  • Hadephobia - Fear of hell
  • Panophobia - Fear of everything
But what about those crazy superstitions that people have?

  • Never take a broom with you when you move. Buy a new one.
  • If your ear is burning someone is talking about you. Left for love, right for spite.
  • Knock on wood 3 times after mentioning good luck, otherwise it will reverse itself and become bad.
  • Breaking a mirror = 7 years bad luck.
  • When eating a fish, start at the tail and work towards the head.
  • If you spill salt, throw some over your left shoulder to ward off evil.
  • Don't open an umbrella inside the house.
  • If someone sneezes, say "Bless you" to ward off the plague.
  • If a black cat crosses your path it's bad luck.
  • If a black cat crosses your path it's good luck.
  • If two black cats cross your path you're at Chris' house.
